A note from the founder

Started at a kitchen table in Windsor.

I started PhantomQuestFrontier in 2019 after one too many wasted Friday nights on games the boxes over-promised. What began as a shared spreadsheet between four friends on Chapel Street is now a full blog with a proper review rig: every game gets three full plays before we write a single word.

We score for real tables — the ones with tired parents, competitive cousins and one friend who never reads rules. No sponsored scores, no rushed verdicts, no jargon walls. Just clear, honest calls on what's worth your shelf space and your evening.

Questions

Before you roll

Do you take money for reviews?

Never for scores. Publishers sometimes send us review copies, and we always disclose that at the top of the article. The verdict, the rating and the criticism stay entirely ours — no publisher sees a review before it goes live.

How does your scoring actually work?

Each game is rated out of 10 across four pillars: rules clarity, replay value, table feel and value for money. We only publish a score after three complete plays with different groups, so a fun-but-fragile game and a slow-burn strategy title get judged fairly.

Can I come to the Windsor game night?

Absolutely — it runs on the first Thursday of each month, 6:30pm to 10pm, at a café near 67 Chapel Street. Entry is free and there's an optional AU$5 snack board. Beginners are genuinely welcome; we always keep a few easy-to-learn games on the go.

Can I pitch a review or guest column?

Yes, we run two guest pieces a month and pay a flat AU$120 per published column. Send us a short pitch through the contact form with the game, your angle and a writing sample. We reply to every pitch within a week, even the ones we pass on.

How often do new posts go up?

A flagship Three-Play Review lands every Wednesday, with shorter strategy notes and the Shelf of Shame column scattered through the week. If you'd rather not check back, the contact form doubles as a way to join our fortnightly email round-up.
